Management Committee

Howlong Preschool is a community preschool that is managed by a parent's committee in conjunction with the centre director and staff.

The management committee is comprised of parents whose children have or are currently attending the Howlong Preschool.  Meetings are held once a month.  The committee makes decisions that affect the Preschools future plans and financial operation.  The Preschool Director attends these meetings and reports to the Committee on the past month’s activities and matters needing attention.

The Committee is responsible for the overall management and financial viability of centre, which includes establishing budgets, policy development and licensing requirements as well as staffing.  Fundraising activities are also organised throughout the year to offset the running costs of the Preschool and enable equipment, learning materials etc, to be purchased, which benefit the children.

As a parent of a child attending the centre you are encouraged to consider the benefits of becoming involved with the Committee.  Participation as a Committee member involves attending regular meetings and bringing forward any matters, concerns, suggestions, etc relating to the functioning of the Preschool.  The task of being a member is not a difficult one, it is more a matter of interest in your child’s learning environment and the future of the Preschool.  How much time you wish to dedicate as a member is decided by you, as there is no pressure.

The Committee of Management is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.
